useful information

We thought it would be helpful to define some of the terms we use in printing and some of the phrases you might expect to hear when discussing your artwork and print.

Tick/Trim Marks – Tick marks are references on artwork that show where it should be cut once printed. These are also referred to as crop marks.

Bleed – Bleed is a printing area that goes beyond the edge of the page after cutting. A normal bleed is usually around 3mm.

CMYK – Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. This is the colour model we use when printing. All colours we print are made up of a mixture of these 4 colours. Other colour processes included RGB (red, green, blue) and the pantone system.

PDF – Portable Document Format. We accept artwork in PDF format and can also accept other formats including illustrator and in design.

Paper Sizes – Typically A, B and C series papers are double that of the previous size so A3 is twice the size of A4 and A4 is twice the size of A5. An A4 sheet of paper measures 210mm x 297mm. C sizes relate to envelopes.
